I Can Help
Difficult situations often bring confusing and overwhelming emotions. We often feel alone with these unwanted feelings such as sadness, anger, anxiety or grief. I can help you understand your feelings, move you through them and into a happier healthier place.
If the client is an individual or a couple, I view our task as helping to define appropriate goals, keeping the therapy on track and achieving the desired results. The therapeutic journey is mutually determined, and the patient is an active partner in determining and evaluating the direction. While history is invariably interesting, efficient use of therapeutic time requires selecting those aspects that are most likely to have relevance for the present difficulties.
DIRECTNESS AND CARING
While patients appreciate clarity, directness and tactful confrontation; they also appreciate the respect, caring and warm regard that clearly underlies our interventions. They also value humor and our belief that even when things feel bad and there is need of a safe space for sadness, mourning or rage, there is also room for laughter.
Eye Movement Desensitization
EMDR is a psychotherapy approach that uses eye movements to stimulate both sides of the brain and reprocess traumatic memories. EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. Often disturbing memories that did not get processed correctly at the time of the trauma, can cause unwanted physical reactions even if the traumatic event was years ago.
What type of problems can EMDR address?Scientific research has established EMDR as effective for post-traumatic stress and other conditions. Many counselors and researchers reported success using EMDR in treatment of the following conditions to name a few:
- panic attacks
- complicated grief
- dissociative disorders
- disturbing memories
- pain disorders
- eating disorders
- performance anxiety
- stress reduction
- sexual and/or physical abuse
- body dysmorphic disorders
- personality disorders
What benefits may I get from EMDR?
The goal in EMDR is to help clients remove negative associations and impulses with past and present experiences. Often clients report that the once troubling memories are “far away” or “fuzzy” and there is no physical reaction to the memory such as anxiety, flashback, or nightmares to name a few. Some clients report relief in a short period of time (1-3 sessions). For clients processing more complicated trauma it may take a bit longer. It has been my experience that everyone processes differently and at different speeds.
"I always believed in the EMDR process but after becoming trained and using this method in practice, I am amazed at the peace this intervention has brought to many clients!"
